The donation of umbilical cord blood units that matches the ethnicity of the population is critical in helping to save lives of needy patients. Being of Malay ethnicity, the probability of finding a cord blood transplant match for Haziq was only 30%. Thankfully, two matching cord blood units were found in the SCBB inventory after four months of searching.
