Transplant Centres and Physicians
Searches for SCBB Cord Blood Units
Transplant Physicians can search SCBB for an unrelated cord blood unit(s) on behalf of their patients needing haematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HCT).
Through the National Marrow Donor Program (NMDP), all eligible cord blood units are listed on an international donor database – World Marrow Donor Association (WMDA). You may wish to access SCBB Cord Blood units by searching on WMDA (Registry #4291) or search the SCBB’s Cord Blood Unit Inventory directly.
To search SCBB directly, Physicians are required to complete a CBU Search Request Form and send completed form with Patient’s HLA report to firstname.lastname@example.org.
The Search Request Form can be obtained by clicking the following link.

Distribution (Release) of SCBB CBUs to Transplant Centres
When the Transplant Centre finds a matched Cord Blood Unit, a Confirmatory typing (CT) of HLA shall be performed before the distribution (release) of the CBU for transplantation. Upon activation, SCBB shall use an attached segment of the
CBU to perform CT in an ASHI (The American Society for Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics) or EFI (The European Federation for Immunogenetics) accredited HLA Typing laboratory.
SCBB works closely with a specialist courier to ensure that the cryopreserved CBU(s) in the dry cryoshipper is not compromised during shipment. The cord blood delivery is traceable at any point, from the time it leaves SCBB until it arrives at the destination.
The requested CBU is located and retrieved from the Long-Term Cryopreservation Tank. The identity of the product is verified.
The verified CBU is transferred into the cryoshipper. The temperature within the cryoshipper is maintained at below -150 Degree Celsius during transportation.
The cryoshipper is secured with a numeric padlock to ensure that the shipper is not tempered during shipment. The temperature of the Cryoshipper is continuously monitored during the entire shipment until it reaches the final destination
The cryoshipper is placed in a protective container to avoid accidental dip. Authorized courier service personnel shall deliver the cryoshipper to the Transplant Centre.
