Distribution (Release) of SCBB CBUs to Transplant Centres

When the Transplant Centre finds a matched Cord Blood Unit, a Confirmatory typing (CT) of HLA shall be performed before the distribution (release) of the CBU for transplantation. Upon activation, SCBB shall use an attached segment of the CBU to perform CT in an ASHI (The American Society for Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics) or EFI (The European Federation for Immunogenetics) accredited HLA Typing laboratory.

SCBB works closely with a specialist courier to ensure that the cryopreserved CBU(s) in the dry cryoshipper is not compromised during shipment. The cord blood delivery is traceable at any point, from the time it leaves SCBB until it arrives at the destination.

The requested CBU is located and retrieved from the Long-Term Cryopreservation Tank. The identity of the product is verified.
