SCBB's Cord Blood Inventory
The Singapore Cord Blood Bank aims to build a diverse inventory of Asian cord blood units so that Singaporeans and Asians in the South East Asia region and around the world will have a better chance of finding an adequate blood stem cell match. Our goal is to provide patients with an Asian Lineage with a better chance of finding a suitable unrelated cord blood match, with our current cord blood inventory of over 13,000 cord blood units available for Haematopoietic Stem Cell Transplants (HSCT).
At present, the majority of Asians worldwide are unable to find a fully matched bone marrow donor. As a result, many patients succumb to diseases that might otherwise be treated with a Haematopoietic Stem Cell Transplants (HSCT).
The distribution of SCBB's Inventory is reflective of Singapore's Ethnic Profile with 61% Chinese, 20% Malay, 4% Indians and 15% Others. The ethnic profile of the CBU Inventory in the SCBB is illustrated below.
