Processing & Cryopreservation of CBUs

The SCBB, as a Member of the National Marrow Donor Program (NMDP) and American Association of Blood Banks (AABB), had adopted and is in compliance with the stringent international guidelines and regulations for public cord blood banks.

The cycle starts as bags of collected cord blood are transported to SCBB, processed, and preserved frozen (< -150 °C) within 48 hours of being donated at one of the participating hospitals.  The collected umbilical cord blood bags and related maternal blood samples (blood samples from mother) are stored in a temperature monitored environment during transportation and before processing to ensure the viability and integrity of the cells contained in collected umbilical cord blood is preserved.
